POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Business Development and Engineering, the Digital Video Designer will be responsible for digital video product or subsystem design/development for television broadcast applications (CATV, Terr., Sat.) for headend/hub/customer premises deployments including but not limited to the following:
- Conduct MPEG encoding of analog baseband A/V, incl. VBI (SD/HD) VBR/CBR
- Manipulation of MPTS/SPTS including: Add/Drop Multiplexing, Re-Multiplexing, Re-Mapping, Statmuxing, Grooming, Routing, Transrating/Rateshaping, extraction and insertion of programs/ES/PIDs, DPI, TS-Analyzer
- VOD (server, HFC transport, EdgeQAM)
- Transcoding MPEG2<>H.264, SD<>HD
- Video Scaling SD<>HD
- Digital Modulation (QAM, A/B/C, QPSK, VSB, COFDM)
- Digital Interfacing ASI, IP (GigE) and ASI<>IP conversion
- RF Interfacing/Upconversion (DAC, DDS-Direct Digital Synthesis), single/multi channel
- Receiving digital transmissions (QAM, QPSK, 8QPSK, VSB, COFDM, ASI, IP-GigE)
- Digital Demodulation
- MPEG Decoding
- NTSC/PAL/SECAM Encoding, invl. VBI, baseband or analog RF Out
- System monitoring/management/communication local/remote (Linux, Windows, SNMP)
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- College Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering
- Advanced working, technical and specialized knowledge of the following:
- Analog/digital RF communications
- CATV, wireless and/or satellite communications
- Digital video/audio data oriented standards and protocols (SCTE, ATSC, DVB, DOCSIS, PacketCable, MPEG2/4, H.264, Dolby, GigE, ASI, IP-Video over IP, UDP, RTP, Unicast, Multicast
- Data processing, networking and device programming procedures, protocols and practical implementations (Linux, Windows, Web/FTP-server, TCP/IP, Ethernet, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, PCI, USB 2.0, SD Card, microprocessors, FPGAs and other programmable logic)
- Conditional Access methodologies and practical implementations (CableCard decryption, DVB SimulCrypt encryption/decryption, interfaces for acceptance of decrypt modules)
- Superior communication skills both oral and written
- Excellent interpersonal skills capable of interacting with all levels of associates both internal and external to the organization
- Strong project management and organizational skills
